Did your vacation include a round on the links? What course did you play? What was it like? What was the price range of the green fees? Share your knowledge of the local golf landscape.

Just returned from a week long trip to Oregon central coast with lots of golf. We stayed at Schooner Landing in Newport. We played a total of 6 rounds in the area. On the way up, we stopped in Bandon to play Pacific Dunes, the number 2 public course in the country. Bandon is about 2.5 hours from Newport, so not really accessible for a day trip. It's a bucket list type of course so expect to pay $250 or more a round, and if you get a nice day like we did, it is worth every penny.
If you are looking for something a little less expensive there are a few options. Florence Golf links is a little more than an hour south of Newport. Designed by Rees Jones, it is a well designed challenging course, very much worth the $65 we payed to play it. Greens were just aerated which was disappointing, but the layout was tremendous, especially the last 3 holes.
If you head up north on 101, there are two golf course options within 45 minutes (closer if you are staying at Depoe Bay or Gleneden). Salishan is an excellent course with some great views of the bay and a few coastline glimpses. We payed $75 to play, but found a deal on Golf Now for less ($49) so played it twice. Greens were excellent and the course is very challenging and difficult, so I would not recommend for beginning players.
Further up the road is Chinook Winds, a shorter course with a handful of interesting holes. Again we found a deal on Golf Now and paid only $22 with a cart. Lots of elevation changes but the course is only a par 65, so much easier than any of the others mentioned.
Finally, if you just want to get in a quick nine, Agate Beach golf course is only a mile away from the resort. The 9 hole course is relatively flat and very walkable. We played right after a solid rain, and it was wet, a bit sloppy at times, but fun to play. The cost was $22 and staff was very friendly.
