We've been to WM Galena three times, and always have dinner at Fritz and Frites, an Alsatian restaurant at the far end of Main Street. The first time, we just stumbled on it, the second we made a point of returning, and now we see it as one of the reasons to visit. They have both French and German specialties -- steak frites, schnitzels, cassoulet, etc. It's definitely a splurge, but well worth it.

My wife and I stayed at Galena last October. Had a great time. The first night, Saturday, we went to Gobies at the North end of Main Street for pizza. The place was pretty crowded, but it was a Saturday night and the weather was pretty mild, so it wasn't surprising. The deep dish pizza and salad were excellent, more than the two of us could finish. I thought it was a bit pricey, but for a tourist town it wasn't really unexpected.

We stopped at embe for lunch on Tuesday. Good, but expensive. I don't recall what we had exactly, sandwiches, fries and a drink (probably a beer) I believe. It set us back $26 for two of us. Knowing we were in a tourist town, we expected the prices to be higher that home, but this one seemed a bit over the top.

On Wednesday we took my wifes Aunt with us to town and stopped at the Victory Cafe for lunch. None of us was impressed with our lunches. At close to $10 each for sandwiches, chips and soda, we expected a bit more quantity and quality.

All in all, we enjoyed our dinners (on this visit and our previous one) out more than our lunches. When asking at the front desk about resturaunts, many of the ones recommended in other posts were also still recommended. While we only visited a few, we weren't warned away from any, ,

A couple of other restaurants we have enjoyed are Vinny Vanucchi's and Benjamin's. Both are in downtown Galena.

We visit Galena often and we love Emma Lou's for Breakfast with their yummy strawberry french toast or huge pancakes. It is behind the Culvers on Hwy 20. Also The Log Cabin has a discount rate for their delicious prime rib on weekdays.
