Have you stayed at Schooner Landing? Here's your change to tell other owners what it's really like. How big is the pool? How hot is the hot tub? What do you wish you had known before you left home?

Schooner Landing is definitely not a Worldmark property, and if you come here expecting the usual Worldmark amenities (attractive, updated properties, great management, in-room laundry, BBQ on every patio, etc.), you will be sadly disappointed. This place was built in the early 80s, and has barely been updated since. Even much of the furniture and faded artwork are clearly original, as is the mismatched, faded, cracking siding, the peeling paint and rusty nails, the patchwork-repaired roofs. (Even the siding repairs are being nailed in with uncoated nails, so more rust streaks will be coming soon to a wall near you.) Our unit is also slipping toward the sea, and the floors are at a vertigo-inducing angle. The formica countertops have been handpainted to resemble a tabby cat. All the metal parts of the playground are rusted, making parts of it dangerous. Our checkin was 2.5 hours late while we waited for our room to be cleaned until 7pm (thankfully they offered us free wifi, movies, and ice cream to make up for it). We had to report broken handrails, a door that didn't close, and a window with no screen for repair. The second bedroom has no dresser, so we have to lay out clothes on the floor.

So it took some time to get over our disappointment, after so many great experiences at actual Worldmark facilities.

On the plus side, it is only a 1/4 mile walk to the beach, and it's a great beach. The memory foam mattresses are nice. And there was no annoying timeshare salespitch to dodge.

But I wish Worldmark actually owned this place, and would invest the time and money in real upgrades and better management.

We spent a week at Schooner Landing in April. Worldmark owns about 12 units, and the rest are owned by another timeshare group. There are no Worldmark signs on the highway, so just watch for 66th Street and Schooner Landing signs. We had a 2-bedroom unit in building 200, which backs up to the highway. It wasn't noisy at nighttime as there was little traffic -- plus when you open the front windows, the sound of the ocean makes it fine. We didn't have an ocean view, as is the same for about half of the condos, but we could see the sunset skies, which were beautiful. Since we were traveling with another couple, the staff joined the twin beds with a kit that made a king-size bed in the 2nd bedroom -- very nice! Our unit had 2-1/2 baths which was nice. The kitchen had enough dishes and utensils to feed 20 people. We even had a wet bar! The living room was large and had a large TV and we used the gas fireplace constantly in the cool mornings and evenings. We appreciated the FREE wi-fi. The master bedroom had a fireplace and huge TV. The 2nd bathroom had a jacuzzi tub. The beach access is a little long and steep compared to other resorts, but once you get to the beach, it is fantastic! We found agates, fossils, and shells. There are also some great tidepools at the end of the beach toward the lighthouse. The condo is a short drive to Yaquina Lighthouse, where we enjoyed hiking and tidepools. We liked the close proximity to Newport and the Agate Beach Golf Course, which is a friendly 9-hole course. The staff was great -- and they host some activities like: music night, pancake feed. Their newsletter is a hoot! We missed having a washer/dryer in the unit; and you have to pay to use the washers in the laundry building. We didn't use the tiny indoor pool -- we hope there are plans to build an outdoor pool? There is only 1 parking spot per unit, but the guest parking was only about 500 yards away, so our guests parked there after they unloaded their gear. There is no work-out facility on-site and no dedicated game-room.

We just got back after 6 nights at Schooner's Landing. We stayed in unit 109, a 1 bedroom loft. Our unit was very comfortable. The kitchen had plenty of cupboard space for our groceries as well as a pantry. The bed was a Tempurpedic and very comfortable. The living room furniture was also comfortable - no saggy couch cushions. We did not have a view unless you leaned over the deck railing and peered between the trees, and then we only saw a glimpse of the water. Our unit had a fireplace, as most do, but it would not operate without the fan - which was noisy. I did miss not having a BBQ grill on the deck. We had a nice time here, but probably won't stay here again. Nothing bad about the resort at all and I'm glad we tried out this resort, but Depoe Bay, just up the road, is hard to beat.
