So the website says the 29th the resort will begin checking people back in but we have a friend who just cancelled October reservations because he was told by a worldmark representative the resort will be closed through January... Can a representative confirm which is correct?

Is everything OK at Coral Baja? I have not seen any updates on the resort, staff or visitors.

Trip Advisor has some new posts, and these have cancellation dates:

1. Re: Please report Worldmark/Wyndham Coral Baja damage
Sep 15, 2014, 6:37 PM
They did have damage. All new reservations will not be taken until a least 9/29. We were suppose to leave this Sunday for 10 days. Have cancelled everything.

4. Re: Please report Worldmark/Wyndham Coral Baja damage
Sep 15, 2014, 7:25 PM
Worldmark called us to cancel our 4 reservations for next Sat (9/20). We were told that there is no power, broken glass and flooding. Resort services said they may be able to reopen in two weeks or a month. We have been there in a much smaller hurricane and roads were severely impacted. It may not be possible to get to the resort from the airport. The sand drifts and road washouts were considerable when we were there. We cannot imagine the impact of nearly double the wind forces.

Not much setrvixe of any kind in Cabo at the moment....lots of windows blowed out of hotels, fallern trees...I don't think it is a place you want to go to for a few weeks at least...I have been sent tons of pictures of the damages. It does not look pretty

Good to see pictures. How is the road for getting into Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo? Any reports on restaurants in the area?

Thank you for the update. We are scheduled to go to CB next week. When I called WM, they said the damage was mostly windows, the pool hut, and lots blown around but things were otherwise good. That isn't so true of the rest of the area. I'll be anxious to hear anything anyone has to report.

Report from San Jose Del Cabo, the Grand Mayan, which isn't that far from Coral Baja. I couldn't find anything on Coral Baja specifically, but it doesn't sound good there. Bear in mind that there's no question infrastructure has been damaged even if the resort is in relatively good shape.

My parents are there right now. We got word from them this morning and were safe in a shelter through the night, however, they said The Grand Mayan suffered extensive damage. I have not been able to talk to them since early this morning for any other updates. I hope your trip will still go as planned.

We were booked at the Grand Mayan for Oct 5 - 13th and were called this morning to cancel our reservation due to damage at the hotel. Didn't even realize there was a hurricane in the area until they called us. We were offered to re-book us at the Grand Mayan in April of next year or another Grand Mayan resort location not in Cabo. Hope this helps for those who haven't been notified yet.

We were there last week and they were still cleaning up from hurricane Norbert! Elevators were out for 3 days but most of the other damage was due to erosion from heavy rain. The beach area was moderately damaged.

We left on Saturday to avoid Odile and thankful for that! Looking forward to some post Odile info as we are due to be back in a few months.

As others have said multiple times on this forum, Cabo was struck head on by a category 3 hurricane. While the resort itself may or may not have significant damage, the infrastructure of the city and mainly, the livelihood of the many employees may be devastated.

I wouldn't count of spending next week in Cabo, there will be too many people trying to rebuild their lives to cater to tourists.

2. Re: Grand Solmar Storm Damage

That was virtually inevitable............sadly....................also, no restaurant left at TerraSol, PG had much damage, and sadly, it is looking really bad for the entire area. It looks like Odile may be turning east a bit, so she could continue to do great damage frown

2. Re: Playa Grande
Sep 15, 2014, 12:41 PM
There is some pretty extensive damage at Playa Grande... the palapa roof on the restaurant/bar totally collapsed. Cleanup and repair won't happen over night. Grand Solmar next door lost a pool to the ocean... If you do go I wouldn't expect it to look very pretty.

Not sure how to post a pic but Coral Baja got hit pretty good. The glass from the little market on site was all shattered and the hut by the pool was demolished. Looks to be lots of debris and minor damage compared to other resorts. The Mexico embassy says cabo should be pretty well put together within a couple weeks. I hope so!

We always take the shuttle which is set up ahead of time. The driver is waiting fo you when you arrive and always we are in our own party so we are driven directly to the resort. He will even stop along the way at the quick mart to grab some quick items. The contact info to set this shuttle up is in the PDF info on the resort info page. I believe it is 35.00 each round trip but is well worth it. Have your flight info ready when booking.

Thanks Mike.....any details ? Where did you get the shuttle ? How long did you have to wait ? How many others were there on the shuttle ? I would not want to wait for another group or flight and be at the airport too long. How much $$ ? Any other info...

Hi
We have not taken the coral Baja shuttle before but may next time we go down. I wonder how long the wait is and that's why we took private transportation, It was $70 to the resort in an air conditioned suburban. I would like any info about the details of the shuttle.

We take peso and American cash. There are atms and most places take credit cards. Be careful because we have had ours compromised while down there.

There are a couple restaurants right by the resort. There are many good ones in San Jose which is a 70 peso cab ride. Set rates for cabs from the resort which is nice. We usually take the bus into Cabo.....newer buses in the last year and it was easy and inexpensive....especially for 2 people. Taxi into Cabo is not cheap when only 2 people pitching in. Mega grocery store is a short walk or cab ride if you choose. Its like a superstore.....most things you can think of are there. Lots of time share people that will offer to help you with your shopping but really want to get you to a time share. We just nicely say no thank you and have not had an issue.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I notice on here that the is a guy that goes by CaboBill and he knows all there is to know about this area and seems very helpful.

Hope you have a great trip !! We love it there

2) ATM / VISA card / Travelers checks?? I would prefer to use VISA and an ATM but wondered if VISA is widely accepted and if there are ATM's in the resort.

3) We aren't getting a car--are there restaurants / grocery stores etc. near the resort (walking distance) or is there some way of getting to them?

We'd appreciate answers to the above and anyother information you think first time visitors to Cabo (and for that matter to a WorldMark resort) should know.

Hello,

I would recommend taking the shuttle at least from the airport to the resort. We've done it multiple times. Our last trip was to and from via the shuttle. No problems. When you get off the plane, after the red/green light check, go directly outside. They have a ton of timeshare salesman and they lie!!!

You can use Visa for most everything. We go to Mega to get groceries for the week. You can walk to Mega and take a taxi back. That is what we do. Watch out for the helpful times share salesman. You can also go to Costco via taxi.

You have to go to Guacamaya's. Driving by this place, you would never stop but their food is amazing!! You can take a taxi there. You can also eat at the restaurants onsite.

We usually take a taxi to Cabo. There are a ton of places to eat and places to check out.

Have fun!

Brandon

Usually hot and humid. We go every year last week of Sept to first week in Oct.
Last year really nice and dry. This is Mexican holiday week. Very quite on the streets. Most kids in schools. Fishing tournaments start first/second weekends of Oct so leave before larger groups come in. Yes, lots of relaxing pool time.

The three bedroom penthouse is great. We stayed in the building one. The patio is two tiered. It has a hot tube on the second level of the patio. It has everything you would want. It only holds 6 six people as it has no sofa bed or murphy bed. Great view, great accommodations (as usual). Last time we were there it was 2010 while construction was going on in the lobby area. I hear it looks great, and we have booked June 2015 to go again. oh yeah and the kitchen was very nice, it had everything you need.

Has anyone been there late Sept - early Oct.? What is the weather like then?
We don't want a total rainy, hurricane season --- just a good place to relax by the pool and take in the sights.
Have been to Coral Baja before in Feb-Mar and loved it .... but not at this time season. Any suggestions????
