Have you stayed at Grand Lake? Here's your chance to tell other owners what it's really like. How big is the pool? How hot is the hot tub? What do you wish you had known before you left home?

It appears there hasn't been a post reviewing this resort for a while so here goes.
My husband and I spent a weekend here while traveling from Albuquerque, NM to Louisville,KY. I want to be fair to the resort so I will begin by saying that we stayed at the end, more or less, of a very rainy spring so some of the activities that might have been enjoyed were not available due to flooding. With that said, I didn't see that the area has much to offer if you don't golf, go to casinos, or own a boat.
The resort itself is very nice which is expected of WorldMark resorts. My husband enjoyed the hot tub, sadly I can no longer tolerate chlorine in pools. The staff were friendly and accommodating and they tried to keep the area dry during an all day downpour on our last day.
Just a side note, the resort is on a hill which means stairs or ramps just walking in the hall. Lucky for WorldMark owners we are on the top of the hill, the Club Wyndham part lower down had flooding is some of the rooms. Get the story of how Monkey Island got its name, pretty interesting.
Since we live in Idaho, we probably won't visit again; however I am glad we did get to visit this small hidden away resort. Our time here was very relaxing which we needed.

WorldMark resorts visited: McCall, ID; Arrowpoint, ID; Seaside, OR; Oceanside, CA; Lake of the Ozarks, OK; Running Y, OR; Lake Chelan, WA; Eagle Crest, OR; Surfside Inn, WA: Las Vegas (all three), NV; Reno, NV; St. George, UT; San Francisco, CA: Rancho Vistoso, AZ; Pine Top, AZ; West Yellowstone, MT; Bear Lake, UT; Depoe Bay, OR; Wolf Creek, UT; Longbeach, WA; San Diego – Mission Valley, CA; New Orleans – Avenue Plaza, LA; Angels Camp, CA; Birch Bay, WA; Leavenworth, WA: Scottsdale, AZ; Midway, UT, Grand Lake O' the Cherokee, OK.

My husband and I stayed here for 1 month, June 29 - July 29. Had a great time. We were notified well in advance if power or water was going to be shut down for a period. It gave me time to prepare.

Staff was friendly and the Manager even called ahead making sure that we could park our RV at the next resort. We travel full time in our RV and having access to our Time Shares really helps with expanding our travel to other areas.

Thank you staff and God bless you all. smile

We are here at Grand Lake, OK property now for a few days. What a lovely place! We have a huge one bedroom, and being on the ground floor we were able to park steps away and unload our luggage and groceries in through the back door of the unit.

The room and building are clean, and up to date. The front desk staff is very friendly and welcoming, and had great suggestions for dinner. They even had an emergency sewing kit that I needed suddenly, and gave us free packet of microwave popcorn when we got a couple of movies to watch in the room.

There is not a lot to do around here, unless you golf. But take a drive up to Commerce, OK and spend hours going through the enormous 76,000 square foot antique mall. Commerce is also the childhood home of Mickey Mantle.

We just spent a few days at Grand Lake - we were actually able to snag some bonus time. After reading several negative reviews, I was pleasantly surprised at how much we liked the resort. Our unit was very nice and large. We had a view of the golf course. This time of the year it looks a bit bleak, but when the grass is green it would be lovely.

Sadly, we were in this part of Oklahoma taking care of some funeral arrangements. I was so touched that every staff member asked if there was anything they could do to help us while we were there. And their offers were very sincere.

This would be the perfect quiet destination for family and friends!

Took are 4 youngest grandchildren to Grand Lake. I have read other comments that state the rooms are small and not up to date. I found this to be completely untrue. We had a three bedroom unit on the bottom floor. Hugh, we had two kids per room and each had their own bathroom. Great, cause it sure kept arguments down. The pool is small was well maintained.
If you are looking for a place with alot of excitement, then this is NOT the resort for you. If you are looking for something that the whole family can relax and just enjoy, definately book this resort. The staff was excellent.

We will be returning next year. The kids can't wait.

We didn't notice anything out of the ordinary; just a couple of really slow, heat-exhausted flies.

I am traveling there Aug 10-13, 2011 and I am wondering if the bugs are still a problem from the 2005-7 postings on the forum? Any recent visitors can answer?

Stayed for one night on 7/09 in a two-bedroom unit. Very large and clean. It has some history in it's bones if you're interested in something other than the cookie-cutter Worldmark layout. If water activities are your thing, this is the place; albeit off the beaten path. It's also close to some original Route 66 pavement, signs, etc.
