Have you stayed at these Tahoe resorts? Here's your chance to tell other owners what it's really like. How big is the pool? How hot is the hot tub? What do you wish you had known before you left home?

Now that our trip is over, here's an update to my previous post:

1. The half wall and tile by the front door is reasonable if you have people coming in with snow gear or wet things. However, a bench would provide a nice place to sit.

2. Six adults and 2 small children were a bit much for the size of unit. Only 6 can sit at the table with 2 at the bar. Not enough couch space to watch a movie or TV or just be together in the front room. Having 4-6 people using 1 bathroom/shower was a bit much. Having to take children upstairs to take a bath was also a chore.

3. A larger nonstick skillet is necessary to cook for that many people, had to cook in batches.

4. A great location, if there was snow.

We're currently in a 3 bedroom loft with jetted tub in Tahoe I. This is the most funky and unuseful layout we've ever seen. Let's start at the top, the master bedroom "loft". First off, it has a door and a very steep staircase. It is open at the top and there are 2 windows that look down on the lower level. The windows do NOT open so heat doesn't circulate. The dresser is in a short hallway between the bedroom door and where the room opens up. Don't leave the drawers open! The closet is small and the mirrored doors are not useful cause it's too close to the bed. There's also a long narrow area (with a 3 inch step up) that leads to a window, but has no obvious use. There's also a weird set of shelves and one cabinet behind the bathroom door.

Downstairs, the front door is separated from the dining area by a half wall. Not necessary. The light over the dining table is way off center and less than 5 ft off the ground, so easy to hit your head. I also loosened 3 of the 5 bulbs cause was too bright. Kitchen is small and, other than small cabinets over fridge and microwave, there's only 1 very awkward empty cabinet for storing food. The drawer over that cabinet doesn't open all the way either, cause it hits the fridge handle.

Seating area is setup so you have to go all the way around both couches to exit. There's a sliding glass door in a lower bedroom that opens to a shared wooden deck with stairs. That's the fire escape.

It sleeps 8 (with the couch out), but seems like it'd be very tight. We'll see this weekend - 4 of our children and 2 grandsons are coming up so we'll be at max capacity.

Just enjoyed a week at Tahoe, Zephyr Cove. The rooms are large and comfy. The front desk staff was extremely helpful and friendly. We booked 3 rooms so we could celebrate my birthday with family. Front desk went to the trouble of making sure our rooms were close to each other and to accommodate my mother so she would not have to walk up the stairs. The location is perfect, only a half mile from the beach, 2 miles from the casinos, restaurants and shopping. Of course it is ideal for skiers which we are not, but we did enjoy the Heavenly Gondola ride and watching the skiers. We had dinner at Harrahs Friday's Station Steakhouse;pricey, but the view is worth every penny. Unfortunately,I wasn't impressed with the rib eye, I don't think steaks should be marinated to taste like something other than beef! I can accept that from Applebees, but for the price, I want a steak that tastes like BEEF. Despite the marinade,it was cooked to perfection! We also ate at the Montblu buffet - NOT Recommended!! I do recommend the Coyote Bar and Grill across the street though. It is walking distance and lots of fun, good food.
Unfortunately, our fireplace was broken and even though smile they sent someone up 3 times to fix it, we just couldn't get it to work properly. Fortunately the other fireplaces worked, so hopefully they will take a good look at the one we had.

Just got back from Tahoe III and wanted to write a little something about it since it’s been awhile since anyone else has! Hopefully I can add some pictures when I figure out how to do that. Not so good at navigating this site, so just putting it all in this post, sorry if it's too much. My husband and I had previously been to the newer South Shore WM near the lake a couple of years ago in late May, and had a fantastic time, so decided we wanted to come back in the winter to see what the skiing was like up on the mountain. We stayed in a 2 bed, (2nd floor, Building D) since we thought someone else would be coming with us. The bathrooms (1.5) were small, but otherwise it was very comfy. We were close to the end of the building where you could see some of the lake by standing on the main balcony/deck, and although you could only see snow covered rocks when looking out the master bedroom sliding glass door - if you opened it and stepped onto the little cement patio and looked to the left, you could see a tiny sliver of the lake area. The front windows faced the parking lot and the front of Building C. I was told only the 2 bedroom plus units have any view in this building.

This had been a pretty “dry” winter for Tahoe, but luckily there had finally been some significant snowfall a couple of days before we got there. We were really impressed with how well the main roads and sidewalks were maintained. Especially the curvy Kingsbury Grade (SR 207), since we were constantly going up and down it to get anywhere, and there were a couple of pretty blizzard-y nights/frozen mornings. The only place we had any trouble at all was actually at the base of the Tahoe III driveway (where all members have to check in, even for Tahoe I & II)…it’s a hard right and uphill drive that still had snow/ice on it when we got there, but we had studded snow tires so it wasn’t a big deal. The other two WM’s were further down the main road (Tramway) – all completely separate from each other. When we got there around 4:00pm, some of the parking spaces were unusable due to the amount of new snow in them, but we could see the staff was working on that issue. All the staff was friendly and helpful. The cleaning crew was still working in our unit when we walked in, so we went for a quick tour. I guess the people before us checked out late. The first thing I wanted to do was take some pictures to post here and check out the view, since I had noticed that the resort site map showed that there was a “deck” on this building, I assumed for everyone to use. I discovered that there are decks on the end of the second and third floors, but the end unit’s huge windows look out onto them and they wrap around to those unit’s back patios, so it felt a little odd to go hang out there, lol. But I did it anyway and got some amazing pictures. The barbecue grills were down on parking lot level and covered with snow at the time. The ResortNet wifi was available at no charge and worked great for me – you just need to set up an account with a password. We found out there is a bus that comes by the end of the WM driveway once an hour, that goes up and down Kingsbury, in case you get tired of the drive.

I have to say that I’m very thankful my husband and I learned a long time ago to always bring our earplugs to the resorts. I used them every night and morning here! I’m sure it had a lot to do with the fact that it was ski season and every single person had big clunky boots on while they were going up and down the stairs, walking past our unit after late night casino time, walking in the units above and beside us, walking to the “viewing deck”, and the maintenance crew sometimes needing to shovel snow off of all the balconies, etc. Every time the folks above us flushed a toilet, we heard the pipes draining in our living room, lol. Anyway, we have learned how to deal with that, so we take it in stride. We realize it’s an older place that has been subjected to many years of extreme weather. One night when our door lock was “frozen” and wouldn’t let us in, a very helpful maintenance man came to help us – he eventually went to get us new key cards and gave us a coupon for a free rental movie for our trouble. Around the middle of the week, we tried out the “Adult” hot tub area, had it all to ourselves…it is in a spot with beautiful views, surrounded by plexi-glass walls to break the wind (thank goodness), and it was nice and hot…loved it. The little structure attached to it had two small changing rooms with electric heaters in them (thank goodness)…looked pretty old inside, but it got the job done.

One very unexpected thing happened to us (mostly me) while there, that I feel I should mention because I haven’t read anything about it here. I ended up getting some pretty severe altitude sickness issues that I ignored because I thought it was just a cold/cough/fever coming on. We took it pretty easy the first couple of days we were there to acclimatize, but the third day, it was beautifully sunny and we went snowmobiling (and my eyes/throat/sinuses got really irritated due to inhaling exhaust fumes while driving behind the leader of the group – I would advise private lessons for first timers, lol!) That night, my sinuses started draining and I got chills, thinking I was still adjusting to the climate. The next morning we had planned to go skiing, and I didn’t want to cancel, so I went through with it. By the way, there are now places that will deliver your skis and other equipment right to your doorstep so you don’t have to wait in line at the lodge with a hundred other people, and the price is the same if not better. Of course, we did tip them, but they were really friendly and accommodating guys, from Powder Run. The front office gave us a flyer/recommendation.

The location of the resort could hardly be any better – Stagecoach Lodge is just a couple miles down Tramway. We parked there and got on a lift, and off we went for the day. The sun came out and we had an amazing time, even though my head was a bit fuzzy, throat sore and nose running. The night before we had mapped out a plan of attack on a trail map that would get us from one side of the mountain back to the other, stop at scenic points and then we would decide what other runs we wanted to do when we completed all that. Well, it took us almost 4 hours just to do that, after stopping for lunch and a whole lotta photo ops. By then, I had become overwhelmingly exhausted and for the first time in my life, I had to call it quits early. I was so disappointed, but I knew I was done for the day and couldn’t even think about going back up the mountain. It hadn’t dawned on us to get ½ day lift tickets, unfortunately. We just went and had some warm drinks in the lodge and then went back to our room. By the way, food and drink costs in the lodges are completely outrageous – we pack lunches to take with. A little bowl of chili is $10, and a beer is almost as much unless it’s after 3:00. So… my cough got worse, and my eyes were turning bright red and throbbing. Still thought I was just getting sick. We went downtown for a quick dinner in the evening and my symptoms got a little better for awhile, but came back at bedtime, and I could not seem to get to sleep, then woke up at 5:30am, again, hacking.

Anyway, we always kept busy during the daytime – going downtown (Heavenly Village or around the lake), but when we got back to our room, my symptoms would pop back up…getting worse each night. At one point, I could barely talk because my throat was so dry, I couldn’t catch my breath…it was a high-pitched, dry cough/croak but I felt like my lungs were full of fluid and on fire. For whatever reason I looked up the symptoms of Altitude sickness and discovered much of it was exactly what I was experiencing, and the problem is that it can lead to Pulmonary and Cerebral edema (fluid in the lungs and brain). We went down to the local Urgent Care that evening….hoping maybe they could give me some oxygen or something…but they had just closed for the night. I decided to just suck it up since we were only going to be there another 24 hours. I guess a lot of people get a severe headache that is a more classic first symptom, along with the exhaustion from lack of oxygen. Anyway, just wanted to throw it out there, in case it can help someone else avoid this type of experience. Now I know that there is a pill you can take that helps a little also. But it’s really important to acclimatize and have a plan of action if that alone doesn’t work for you – and know the symptoms!

We ate at a few different places – nothing fancy this time…Lakeside Inn at the bottom of Kingsbury Grade has good breakfast deals, and we did a $14.99 steak and lobster dinner that was decent there. Mott Canyon Grill (I think) was on Kingsbury Grade, very decent…so was one of The Red Huts (we went there for breakfast and to the newer one on Ski Run Blvd for a quick dinner – that one has a “soda shoppe/ice cream bar/espresso bar” attached). I think it was Harvey’s that advertises a $12.99 dinner buffet, but after going inside to find it, we were told it’s only on the weekends. You’d think they would make that more clear on the outdoor sign, but then people wouldn’t come in and possibly spend money in the casino, right?! There are some brew pubs close to Heavenly Village – all decent, and different. We love sushi, and found¬ a newer place we really liked much further down Lake Tahoe Blvd (Cal side)…it’s called Off The Hook. They had a happy hour that even included sushi, not just drinks. We did a lot of the “casino stuff” the last time we were there, so didn’t do much of that this time. I would say grab one of the “Entertainment” papers in the lobby and see what grabs your interest, if you haven’t googled/reserved it all ahead of time. Heavenly Mountain also has a great website with a list that has 4 days worth of recommendations for things to see and do locally. (www.skiheavenly.com; look under “Plan a trip”)

We spent a little more time walking around Heavenly Village this trip – there was an ice rink, movie theater, small pubs/cafes, live/outside entertainment in the evenings (weather permitting), Rocky Mountain Chocolates, the Gondola rides, lots of novelty/clothing stores and ART galleries. Every time we walked in one to get a closer look at something, we were swooped upon, lol. And being from the northwest, one thing I really missed was drive-thru coffee stands! But there were Starbucks stores all over the place. We also discovered that the supermarket “Raleys” just passed Heavenly Village had a decent deli, sushi, soup/salad bar, for less expensive quick meals. There is also a Safeway further down the road – never went in it, but they seem to have the most reasonably priced gas in their attached gas station. Oh, there is a little market and a pub on Tramway, between the WM and the Stagecoach Lodge. We didn’t go into either of them, just assumed they would be pretty spendy. Well, I think I’ve touched on everything I can remember for now – hope it’s been helpful. Enjoy! JR

This will be our 2nd time to visit Tahoe. Stayed in Tahoe 3 years back and it was snowing and didn't really much enjoyed except stayed home since we don't ski and the kids and I were not feeling good glad it was only for a weekend. We just want to try this resort then.

Now my husband's siblings and fambam booked a 2- 2BR units on Tahoe 2 and I'm not sure I really want to go since it has no A/C in the room. I hope I'll find this resort to my liking. Will let you know after.

We just got back from our vacation in Tahoe. We stayed in Building II and had a 3 bedroom. Building II does not have any view at all. The inside was nice inside however it was warm and no air conditioning. Biggest complaint is the lack of an elevator. Though we are on the 2nd floor it is actually 3 flights up. Hauling luggage & ice chests was a big chore. My parents could not come visit us in our room because of the stairs. Otherwise this is a nice place just be prepared.

This is our first visit to this resort. It is one of the original WM properties.

We are at Tahoe 3, Building C, a one bedroom. Smaller than one thinks of for a typical WM property. No views here to speak of. We can sort of see the Carson Valley from the deck out back through the trees.

A few negatives. Small bathroom, sink only, no counter space. There is a cabinet to put some stuff in. Kitchen is also small, not room for 2 people in their at the same time. Furniture not very comfortable IMHO. Storm moving in today, so not much to do except sit here and read or watch tv. We are not big gamblers. Pool is extremely cold, guessing it must not be heated. When you see kids that step in and then come out, and say that is cold, you know it's cold as kids will swim in almost anything. Hot tub by the pool is worthless. You may as well sit in a hot tub of water. The jets barely have enough power to blow out, and as a result all it does is come out and blow straight up. We are on the middle floor so you pretty much hear your neighbors up stairs walking around, flushing the toilet, taking a shower etc. Kids being kids you can definently hear them running down the outside halls with their excited squeels of joy.

The staff so far has been great and until today and tomorrow if the weatherman the weather has been terrific.

My family and I stayed at Tahoe II, 3 bedroom last summer and we could find very little to complain about. There were 6 of us, 4 adults, 2 teens and the condo was spacious enough for all of us to enjoy. I agree with the earlier owner that mentioned that the condo can get stuffy. The upstairs bedroom was most likely to suffer because the heat rose to that room. But with the fan that is provide in that room, you can cool it quickly with outside air. We didn't use many of the amenities at the resort because, well, your in Tahoe and if your are at the resort for long your wasting your trip! However, the pool was great and the staff were polite and informative.

I'm a long time visitor to Tahoe, having been a child of an owner of The Ridge Tahoe; we use to come up to Tahoe every summer. Just know with Worldmark Tahoe I, II, and III, you are at the top of the Kingbury grade which is about a 10min drive with no construction to the valley floor. With construction, it can be up to a 30 min drive. My suggestion, leave early and come home late and you will miss the traffic. If you want to be on the valley floor, book Worldmark South Shore.

If you want to visit Tahoe in the summer, bookend the 4th of July. They have the most spectacular fireworks show on the lake. The days leading up to the 4th will be bustling with people, but after the 4th it calms down and you can enjoy quite strolls by the lake. Pack food, and head down to the lake early on the 4th and find an unobstructed view of the lake for the best show!

Enjoy!

We just returned from our ski trip to Lake Tahoe and our stay at the WorldMark Tahoe III resort. The office staff was very helpful. Kudos to Lisa who gave us wonderful recommendations for dinner. Each restaurant had delicious food. Our favorites were the Chart House and Capisce!

Tahoe III was perfect for skiing Heavenly Valley because the Stagecoach Lodge was nearby and alleviated dealing with the crowds at Heavenly Village and the California Lodge. Tahoe III was also handy for skiing at Kirkwood. We were able to avoid going through town and instead drove down the back side of Kingsbury Grade toward Highway 395 to the 88. Seemed like we saved a lot of time going this route.

Our condo was a one-bedroom unit in the C complex. Since there was only the two of us, it was perfect. Parking could be a little tight at times but there was always parking around the corner of our complex. My husband and I enjoyed our stay and I would definitely recommend the Tahoe resorts to others.
