We ate at the Buccaneer Bay in Treasure Island for dinner Sunday night. It was the first time I've eaten there and I loved it! The food was outstanding, the service excellent and definitely worth the visit. It is pricey, but worth the extra cost (and we looked out on the show from our table).

My favorite for dinner has always been Bertolini's in the forum shops area of Caesar's. I've eaten at Nero's there, for business, and also Isis at Luxor, again for business. They are far more upscale than Bertolini's, but not quite as fun. I love the breakfast buffet at Luxor, though.

One of our vendors at a previous job took us to Ruth's Chris Steak house during Comdex about 10 years ago. Now THAT's a great steak!

We ate at the Rio's Seafood Buffet. It was fantastic. The little lobster tails were wonderful. Great deserts. It's pricy though so go hungrey. I think it was $34.00 each for adults.

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know of a great mexican restaurant on Vegas? We were in LA 4 years ago and had the best mexican food ever - they made the guacamole on a trolly next to the table - it was so fresh.

There's a good (great would be a stretch) Mexican restaurant in the New York, New York casino. According to their web site it's called Gonzalez Y Gonzalez. We've eaten there several times. No guacamole at our table when we were there and I don't recall seeing it at other tables either.

I think there might have been a Mexican restaurant in the Rio Hotel, but I don't know the name. Sorry.

We found the Mexican restaurant at Sams Town pretty mild and not really Mexican food, though my aunt from New York liked it. I'd avoid it (I do like the other restaurants in Sams Town, especially Billy Bob's - their steakhouse).

I also liked "The House of Blues" in Mandalay Bay Hotel. It's kind of like a Hard Rock Cafe with a jazzy/cajan style. The hambergers were great! Good atmosphere. We ate lunch there. I think there is live music at night. Enjoy.

Were you at El Chollo's in LA? It's my favorite (several locations including the airport). In LV, I've eaten at Chevy's near Polo Towers and liked it. Also, next to the Coke Museum is La Salsa (another chain) that's pretty good. A favorite of mine is off strip...out in the NW on Rancho at the Fiesta Casino (can't remember the name). Also, Margarita Grill at the Fremont makes homemade tortillas onsite and I think gives you a small portion of guacamole as a free starter. Can you tell I live Mexican food? Oh, and for 'fast food', try either Baja Fresh (best fish tacos) or Rubios (best everything!).

Another restaurant we tried that we liked was Roy's. It is a chain started in Hawaii and has mostly (but not all) seafood. There are 2 of them in Vegas - one on Flamingo and one on Charleston (we went to the one on Charleston). No casino, not on the Strip, not exactly what a tourist might be interested in when going to Vegas, but good food. Not cheap, but then none of the better restaurants in Vegas are cheap any more (sigh).

My Wife and I went to The Commander's Palace at the Alladin Desert Passage and it was excellent...a bit...a lot pricy but they cater to you hand and foot. I recommend the buffalo prime rib if you are big on steaks!

Anyone know a good place for late night desserts or even anytime. Not in a buffet setting, but something else.
And no, Krispy Kreme doesn't count as desserts! LOL!
Thanks.

Cheesecake Factory in Caesars Palace! It's a restaurant (not just cheesecake), and it is wonderful. I don't know how late they are open though! There are also some great places in the shopping street area of the Paris - don't know names though - sorry. Enjoy.

oooh yes, the Cheesecake Factory! and it is open late - I can't remember what time we went there, but we couldn't find anything else open, so it was fairly late, though probably before the last shuttle back to the resort The servings were HUGE. On checking the web site, the hours are...
Monday - Thursday 11:10 am - 11:30 pm
Friday 11:10 am - 12:30 am
Saturday 10:10 am - 12:30 am

Heading down next week! Any suggestions for a nice sort-of-dressup dinner location with good food AND a view? Isn't there a nice restaurant (or two) in Bellagio overlooking the fountain-show? Seems like I've walked by one but don't remember for sure. ANY other suggestions muchly welcomed. Thanks in advance! Happy Trails----- the ol' coach.

I have a few favorites for the penny pinchers.

Ellis Island - Has a dynamite steak dinner for $4.95. It isn't on the menu. But its a thick steak, baked potato, green beans and a good sized salad and rolls. The decor is dark with red leather booths. Wait time is 30 minutes around dinner time. Restaurant is located in a small casino. Located one block directly behind Ballys. It is in walking distance.
www.ellisislandcasino.com

The Boardwalk, Surf Buffet - Inside the Boardwalk, up the escalator is another fantastic find. The buffet is huge! 4 soups, salads, chinese, and everything else under the sun. Prices are abouut 9-12$ The cool thing about this place is that it is quiet (sometimes you need to not hear the sound of the casino, and empty. A cool place to get away from 'vegas' for a second. The wait staff are super friendly. And if you listen, you'll hear nothing but classic surf music.
www.boardwalklv.com Located next to the Monte Carlo, which is next to the New York, NY.

Downtown,
The 99 cent shrimp cocktail and $1.50 draft beer is fantastic at the Golden Gate. Which has classic Vegas ambiance, cool old pictures of San Fransisco. Golden Gate is located across the street from the Plaza.
www.goldengatecasino.net

11pm - 7 am at Binions is the late night breakfast specials for $2.95. Nice dark little coffee shop.

Best Margarita on the strip is at Westward Ho. 99 Cents & 27 oz. I say this after I spent 15$ on two at Ceasars.
www.westwardho.com
plus 99 Cent bottles of Heineken and Coors Lights.

We just got back from LV, we loved it...

There are 2 restaurants that are great, they are expensive though, about $300 for 2 people. Includes wine

One in the Paris, and one in Bellagio, though you will need to book.

They are Olives , and Effiel Tower Restaurant. Both have views of the water fountains, and have excellent food.

We ate at the Mexican restaurant at the Sun Coast Casino last night and thought it was quite good. Prices were reasonable and the menu had more than just burritos on it (a lovely sounding chicken dish that I will have next time we go). If you want to go to a casino that is not on the strip and seems to be a popular locals spot, try it.

A few we found last year:
Golden Gate at Golden Nugget...decent prices, great food. 5 Irish Brothers in NY NY...pricey, but it's very cozy inside. Food was great!
Gonzales Gonzales in NY NY...it's very good for Mexican, and moderately priced.

For authentic German "oom-pah-pah" fun, delicious food, and --of course-- refreshments, take in the Hofbrauhaus. It's kitty-corner from the Hard Rock. Pretty cool. -- the ol' coach.

Only the BEST beers. They are flown in from Germany. Don't miss the huge beer-hall area at night with all the music, raising of beer steins, dancing, foods, etc... It's all done up right-- "Vegas-style". Consider taking a cab. Have fun.... the ol' coach

OK, not much of a secret and expensive but Bally's Sterling Buffet looked amazing when I saw it included in a Vegas Must Do's show on Discovery Travel. (there's a menu to download from the Bally's link if you need more info ) $60ish is pricey for a Sunday breakfast, and you wouldn't want to have had a big Saturday night to be able to get your money's worth of buffet but worth thinking about?
We're talking unlimited champagne, broiled lobster, caviar, sushi, and rotating dishes of the day (items such as monkfish with pomegranate essence, tenderloin wrapped in porcini mushroom mousse, and even ostrich). not your average buffet fare

NYNY - do not eat at the Il Fornio italian restaurant.
After taking our order and bringing our drinks & appetizers. The waiter said they lost our order. 30 min later we got our food. When we got it, my friends lasanga centger was ice cold. Brought back too hot of course. Then we were offered 2 free desserts.

Sonic burger near Palms is AWESOME!

Ceasar (i think) has Carnegie Deli - HUGE sandwiches, great cheesecakes.

Mandalay Bay: Chocolate Swan, great desserts. And the burger place there (forgot the name) was good too.

Royal Casino: $1 Margarita's!!

BTW: There is a drive thru Starbucks very close to the resort! LOL Same area as the super market.

Just came back from Vegas. Had the Sterling Sunday Brunch for $62.00. I definitely wouldn't eat there again. It was alright, but not for that amount. There's cheaper and better brunch in SF. The lobster was kind of dry and overcooked. The selections were limited. Sushi was OK. You have to ask the counter person which sushi you wanted and ask for the cavier. No self-help for those items. Next time I would try buffets at Bellagio or other fancy casino instead. Had dinner at Picasso in Bellagio where you can see the fountain show. They only have a tasting menu and a Prie-fix menu. It's $100 and $90, respectively. It was very delicious but the portion was on the smaller end. I heard that the tasting menu for Michael Mina gave good portions. I live in SF and had my fair share of sushi. Nobu at Hard Rock Cafe is the best sushi we have ever had so far. The sushi chefs are Japanese with someone looking over their shoulder's. I don't know if he's the head chef or owner or both. Supposedly, they get their fish flown in everyday from Japan. I don't like Uni, but this one looked on the verge of melting. It was shining and smooth. My husband was in heaven when he ate it. I sat at the sushi counter which is only first come first serve basis. The average cost of nigiri sushi is $8.00. They also have a tasting menu. Burger Bar at Mandalay Bay was so-so. I had the Kobe burger which tasted like any other burger ($16.00). Their greek salad was excellent. My husband had the lamb burger and it tasted too gamey. Can you tell that I LOVE to EAT?! Now, I'll have to pack PB&J everyday for lunch until my credit card is paid off.

Hello,

I am a Vegas junkie and come every chance that I get.

I worshipped Bally's breakfast buffet as it was highly recommended by my brother-in-law who lived in Las Vegas (yes, he "escaped"), UNTIL I discoved my "secret gem":
Paris' buffet breakfast at Le Village Buffet on Saturday & Sunday
http://www.caesars.com/Paris/LasVegas/Dining/CasualDining/LeVillageBuffet.htm

Given the long line, I can only guess that almost everyone else knows too. I LOVE buffets with good food at a reasonable price. Until discovering this buffet, I thought that it was an myth--impossible to get all three.
I was wrong.

After a long night of drinking and gambling, dragging my tired body for a "breakfast buffet" didn't sound very appealing.
Boy was I in for a terrific surprise. This buffet had "lunch" items that--in my opinion--makes it really a "brunch" buffet.
It had everything that I could imagine. Sunday's buffet even offers unlimited champagne!

The only negative was the table drink service. I guess that few parties leave any real tips and the service sure reflects it.

Don't be discouraged by the long line to get in. It moves faster than you think. Just chat with your travel companions about that bad beat in poker, that jackpot that almost was, or why Downtown is better than the Strip for gambling.
Suddenly, you're in...and very pleasantly surprised!

Okay, so there's a way to get the best of all worlds.

On the weekends, the "Breakfast" buffet is 7-11 A.M. and costs $12.95. The "Brunch" buffet is 11 A.M.-3:30 P.M. and costs $24.95 (Sunday includes the champagne).

If you get in before 11 A.M. (say 10:45 A.M.), you can pay $12.95 and still get the "brunch" items (except the champagne) when they switch over at 11 A.M.
They can't ask you to leave or to pay the difference just because you arrived near the end of the "breakfast window."
