Barb's has great fish and chips on the Fisherman's Wharf. An easy walk from the resort.

To get delicious, fresh Dungeness crab, go a few steps past Barb's on the dock to the fresh fish vendor. Buy a crab, or two, and have them boil it for you. Take it back to your Worldmark unit and enjoy! You might want to put the garlic bread in the oven and chill the chardonnay before you walk over to the dock.

Located in the Harbor District is Il Terazzo (not sure on the spelling). The food is Tuscan Italian, with a huge wine list. Definitely a must stop.

Just returned from Victoria last week. We had some trouble finding good restaurants but found two worth mentioning. Pagliacci's on Broad St. was outstanding. Everything looked good and our meals (and iced tea) were great. We took a city bus over to Oak Bay and found the Blethering Place cafe. It is an English restaurant where we had fish and chips and a shrimp melt. Both were outstanding (the fish was as good or better than at Barb's!) Both places were wonderful memories. We tried to eat at the Taj Mahal but we were there at opening time and they weren't (waited 15 minutes) so we opted for a rather poor Chinese restaurant. When you get to Victoria, find out where the few beer/wine shops are located and don't expect to find a huge variety except for BC wines. Fun destination but we walked more than we should have. Beware the seaplanes at 7 AM!

Agree Barb's has great fish/chips. If you like a great deli sandwich, homemade soups, try Sam's deli on Gov't St, just across the street from the visitor center and the Empress Hotel. Sandwiches were about $7-8 Canadian, fresh lunch meat piled on about 1 inch thick!

I'd like to take my sister to Victoria but she is used to 5 star resorts and restaurants. We're over 50. Can anyone recommend several VERY nice restaurants? She is from Texas (good beef). Maybe seafood is the best choice in Victoria. Let me know any suggestions please. I've heard Chinatown is good also. I plan to drive up from Seattle (and ferry)so I'll have a car. I live in the Seattle area.
Thanks

One of our best meals was by taking this advice. The crab was great, they steam it and crack it for you. We also enjoyed Penny Farthing Pub in Oak Bay and Julia's Place Italian restaurant. Just a couple of blocks up from the Inner Harbor. Also Milstones right on the Harbor by the information center.

We were there around three weeks ago and I took the advice which was given regarding the fresh crab. I ordered the crab from the fish shack then walked over to Barb's and ordered fish and chips for lunch. The guy from the crab stand brought my crab over to me at Barb's when it was ready (great service). I walked back to the unit and put the crab in the fridge to chill with my Pacificos. we went out for the day and came back to fresh crab, hot sour dough and cold beers. I want to give a thumbs up to Spinnaker's pub. Spinnaker's is located right across the harbor from the resort. Everything was great. Food (considering we were there with our four kids, ages 4 to 13, the menu had something for everone), price, service (exceptionally good service) and the brews were outstanding.

There is a place called Moxie's that is one of the best restaurants we've eaten at! It's a trendy restaurant with awesome food. It's a bit of a walk from the resort (we took a cab one way because it was raining and walked home). We had three different dishes-- all were terrific and others looked great, too. Can't remember what it's called, but try the cheese focassia appetizer. The service is great, the prices are moderate but you won't regret it!!!

We spent two nights at Victoria a couple of days ago. Barb's fish and chips were excellent. Unfortunately, the crab place was closed. We also tried Blethering Place Tearoom at Oak Bay for dinner. We thought Barb's was just a little better. They served British dishes such as steak and kidney pie, fish and chips, bangers etc... I had a slice of pork with crackling. I was kind of disappointed because they only gave me one small piece of pork, a scoop of mashed potato with gravy, green beans and carrot for 16.00. Thought that was a little rip-off. I probably would go back and try their afternoon tea instead. As for dessert I had ordered Pecan Flan which the description sounded yummy and different. It turned out to be Pecan pie. The waitress was great. They have a little shop and we bought preserves such as rubarb and ginger. The price was about the same at other stores. The preserve company is the same one that the Empress Hotel use for their High Tea.

High Tea at the Empress was a treat. It's $42.00, but you get 10% discount with the coupon from World Mark resort. And the Empress also gives you a free box containing 10 bags of their special tea brand to bring home. Don't expect to get full as a meal. Make reservations ahead of time.

We've average about one trip a year to Victoria over the past 25 years and know the town about as well as Salem, Oregon, near where we live. Our favorite restaurants include Restaurant Matisse (Yates and Wharf), Il Terrazzo (Johnson and Wharf), Don Mee (Fisgard St. in Chinatown, Camille's (Bastion Square) and Gatsby Mansion (Belleville, near the WM resort)-- all "fine," or close to it, dining. For casual fare, Barb's Place on Fisherman's wharf is great; also the Elephant & Castle Pub in the Bay Centre, the Tapas Bar in Trounce Alley, James Bay Tea Room (full English tea at about a third the price of the overhyped Empress Tea) -- oh, and for a fun evening with pretty decent Greek Food, Millos on Burdett, behind the Empress Hotel... belly dancer on the weekend. For sweet treats, the Dutch Bakery (yummy pastries and baked goods, also cheap, plain and hearty breakfast)on Fort Street and Rogers' Chocolates on Government Street.

James Bay Tea is great! We also love to eat in China town. Victoria's China town is one of our fav's. We have been to New York, Chicago, San Fransico, Portland, and Seattle but Victoria's China town is just the most quaint and has some of the best food. There are a number of restraunts that serve delicious Dim Sum. No matter where you eat there, you can't go wrong.

BARB's Fish and Chips, um, um, good. Last month was our fifth trip to Victoria. Twice at WorldMark and three times on cruise ships. Every visit it is must to have fish and chips at Barb's. Had Chinese food in Chinatown but not as good as #1 Portland, #2 New York, #3 Seattle. Always ask the locals where to get the type of food you are looking for and if they would eat there.

Do NOT wait until your final day to eat at the Wharf restaurants!! If you're used to American food, don't waste time on pricey restaurants! Barb's Seafood Chowder is THE BEST, and we're used to Seattle chowder, which is always great. You will probably get addicted to Barb's chowder, and that's ok. And be sure to try the BBQ ribs at Grilligan's!!! Delicious, too! Coupons for both are in the WM lobby, or just show your room key. They love WM owners.

We also have a favorite fish and chip restaurant, called Old Victoria's fish and chips on Broad street. Kind of a dumpy place, but the best chowder (in our opinion) and the fish and chips are wonderful. We also spend lots of time in Victoria, was there last week on a 3 day cruise out of Seattle WA.

Enjoy it all.

We mostly cooked in here but ate at:
~the Sticky Wicket Pub - really good food, but only the dining area is open for under 19 - the other game rooms are bars and minors not allowed. The rooftop opens in May for the summer season.
~Ogden Point for lunch. Good sandwiches and desserts. Nice walk from resort.
~Sorry - but I was not too impressed with Sam's Deli. The pastrami was mostly fat and the chowder was actually not good at all. They only had a very few bread choices.

Just got back from Victoria in July, the weather was great. Best places to eat for me: Breakfast at the Blue Fox, huge portions, always a line it's so good. It's located on Fort and Quadra, about 4 blocks up from Government street. The best lunch we had was at the Parliament building, great prices and wonderful atmosphere. For dinner we really liked the Bistro Cafe and Nautical Nellies. We walked to all of the locations but they very from a mile to about 2 miles from the resort. It's worth the walk if you ask me. I'm 55 years old and overweight and I enjoyed the walk but to each his (or her) own.

Just got back yesterday from a weeks stay in Victoria. We ate breakfast everyday in the room. It gets expensive eating all 3 meals out everyday so when we arrived we went to Thrifty Foods and got breakfast items.

Some of the places we ate at and liked were Barb's at fishermans wharf, the Irish Times, the curry buffet at the Empress in the Bengal Lounge,
the Old Spaghetti Factory, lunch at the Parliament Building, afternoon tea at Butchart Gardens and at St. James Tea Room. I would not spend the money for tea at the Empress. You are paying for the name. Go to their Bengal Lounge and have a drink and listen to the live music instead. The Butchart Gardens afternoon tea was delicious and I would go back there. Definately go to Roger's Chocolates on Government St. and get one (or more if you're a chocoholic like me) of their chocolate butter cremes. They are to die for. They are about $2.50 each (Canadian), but worth the splurge.

A couple of nights we bought some fish and BBQd on the deck. There are so many places to eat in Victoria. I read that the city has the 2nd most eating establishments per capita in all of Canada and is 3rd in North America!

Bon Appetit!

We just got back from a fabulous vacation in Victoria. Like everyone, we're always looking for good restaurants, and we did find a few. Milestones is a family friendly upscale restaurant down on the harbor in front of the Empress; the food was great but it took 2 hours to eat lunch due to slow service. We also love Barb's for great fish, and we found The Soda Shoppe on Government St which is a fun old fashioned sytle ice cream, soda and candy shop. Our friends ate at Harbor House and said it was excellent upper scale romantic dining.

Also worth the money if you want a fun experience is to rent a roadster down on the harbor! Only $99 for 2 hours.

no shortage of great restaurants in Victoria. Directly accross from the Worldmark is the Superior Cafe. they do small plates, all that we tried was fantastic. Could be expensive depending on how many you buy. Try the grilled pineapple with rum and coke ice cream for dessert; the chef is fantastic!
In Oak Harbour is an italian deli called Ottavio. Its just accross the street from the Blethering Tea Room. Great sandwiches, but they also have a huge cheese and meat counter, plus gelato and pastries. Perfect for putting together a picnic.
The Sticky Wicket downtown has great traditional pub food. Halibut fish and chips, and the bangers and mash were wonderful.
Rogers chocolates are a must.
the ice cream shop at fisherman's wharf is good.
