They now have gas grills on the decks. They are starting to look pretty bad already from the salt air but Colleen, the resort manager said they will be getting new BBQs. It will be a while though. There is no common BBQ area.

Thank you for the quick response. We are so looking forward to our trip. The last two days here have been over 100 degrees. Oregon Coast weather sounds so good.

I really don't know the best time. We've been there several different times of the year and had never seen any even though I really watch for them. This last visit the end of June our friend spotted one right in front of the resort just as we were getting ready to leave. Good luck on seeing some. Also to the higher post the barbques are in terrible shape. I'm glad to hear that they are getting new ones.

We were just at Depoe Bay this past week. Whales were not to be seen. If you watch the whale reports from Mexico to Canada they are not moving in a usual pattern. Whales are still in Montery CA and have not moved North. the whales are where the food is and this year has been different than most. We did see some late last year at Fort Ross . The Depoe Bay resort is superior as ususal. The Bar B Ques are just fine. They are actually better than the ones at Anaheim in the common area. They light, they are clean and they cook the food just fine. I will be posting a complete trip report shortly. If you can not find whales look for Harbor seal, sea lion, otters, porpoise. sea stars etc. We saw all of these. Our trip was wonderful

Spring Break here (3rd week in March) is usually a good time to see them start back north, but this year has been really weird. Can't tell you.
