Have you stayed at Depoe Bay? Here's your chance to tell other owners what it's really like. How big is the pool? How hot is the hot tub? What do you wish you knew before you left home?

My family has stayed at Depoe Bay almost once every year if not more since it has opened. I love the big windows that face the ocean. It's all you can see from the living room and if you are tired, just go in and lay on the master bed and watch the ocean from there. Or if you want, jump in the jacuzzi in the master bathroom and watch the ocean from there! Just be aware that your balcony is attached to the one that comes out of the living room so someone could walk right in front of your door. Oops!!

The rooms are set up so nice. In the three bedroom you have a master king on one side with a jacuzzi bath and a ton of room. The second bedroom has it's own bathroom and a balcony. Almost like having your own private unit. The third bedroom has twin beds, which worked perfect for my elderly parents with another bathroom right out the door.

We move the furniture around so we can sit right in front of the windows and watch the whales in December & January and then again in the spring. It doesn't get much better than this folks!! They even come out and wash the windows if the spray from the night before has been too much. Is that service or what!!!

You will not be dissappointed at Depoe Bay. Even Phase II is great. We have stayed there too.

One note. You have to pay attention to where you are situated when you get on the elevators or you can not get your luggage cart all the way to your room. There are areas where you have a couple of steps that keep you from pulling the cart right to your door. Not bad if you have a strong person along and you don't have ten bags of clothes and groceries, but if you lots of bags and nobody strong, it's a real bummer. Don't let that stop you but keep it in mind when you get ready to unload your things. Might want to take a quick test run to see where you are and how the steps play into your delivery of goods.

Have fun! It's a great resort. One of the best!!

We are at Depoe Bay as I write this. WOW! It is absolutely awesome here!!!!! One half hour after we checked in we saw a/some Whale(s) going past. What a thrill! The weather is beautiful. The resort is beautiful and the views around the Depoe Bay/Newport areas are breathtaking!!! Last night after a very long day, we just took it easy and enjoyed the views. Today we did some exploring in downtown Depoe Bay. Neat area with just the right amount of "touristy" stuff. We went to the Neptune's Choice Fish shoppe and bought some different kinds of smoked tuna and tuna dip. It was great for a mid afternoon cocktail hour. I highly recommend it. We went to the Yaquina Head lighthouse in Newport and hiked to the top (104 steps). We also went to Cape Foulweather lookout-the views down the coast are wonderful. Tonight we are going to the tidepools down by Newport at low tide. Tomorrow we are going on a fishing charter. We still have 3 nights left here and 4 in Seaside. As you can tell, I am very enthusiastic. Fantastic area!!

There is another lighthouse in Newport called Yaquina Bay. It's just south of the bridge and is quite different than Yaquina Head. So glad to hear you are having a good time. Enjoy.

Hi Kathy, I'm glad that you are enjoying DB. It is our favorite unit. We are in Seaside for the weekend.

Hi Kathy---
As a fellow midwesterner, I knew you'ld love it there! Looks like you hit a great stretch of weather, too. We, also saw a whale there in early June---very close to shore! Also had some great sunsets which I added to my WM Depoe Bay album. Don't you love the humidity out there?!
Wish we were still there!

Depoe Bay is the reason I purchased through WorldMark and I was thrilled to make it my first trip. The resort is incredible. There's nothing like leaving your windows open and falling asleep to the sounds of the ocean.

We saw whales and bald eagles, plus plenty of other fowl. The view is the best I've ever seen. I can't imagine a better setting.

The units were also very clean and felt new. Our 3-bedroom unit had two separate balconies and a panorama of windows. If you can get it, I bet unit 505 is one of the best!

I can't wait to go back...

Wow! My husband and I stayed in Depoe Bay in early May and I've been meaning to post ever since. This was our first WorldMark vacation, and I'm glad we picked Depoe Bay as our destination. It was so amazing that we actually decided to stay two extra days. We stayed one night in Glenneden too, but we liked Depoe Bay better. If you have time, go to the Oregon Coast Aquarium. It was terriffic! The ocean (and all of Oregon, for that matter) was so beautiful compared to the south east Idaho desert where we live. Even our 6 month old baby loved it! It was the perfect romantic getaway and I'd recomend it to anyone!

I do so love Depoe Bay! It is beautiful and the view from the units is spectacular! Everything was wonderful except the layout of the 2 bedroom units. The master suite did not have an outside window. I have to have fresh air at night and the master suite opened to the living room and the slider. Next time we will make sure that we have a roon with a fresh air window.

I'll second that. We're in Depoe Bay tonight, leaving tomorrow morning after a weeks stay in a 2 Br Phase 1 unit. The layout is outside wall with a window that opens and a sliding glass door, living room, then master suite. We've left the master suite doors and the outside windows and patio door open every night. The windows have provisions to be locked open, but not the door. We put the box fan that was in the closet in front of the window to pull in fresh air.

If you had 6 people in the 2 Br unit it would be very inconvenient. The living room contains a sleeper couch (no Murphy Bed here) so you would probably want to close the Master Suite doors. That would make it very stuffy in the bedroom. A ceiling fan in the master suite would be a welcome addition or perhaps a "fan" position on the central heat to circulate air.

Fred,

It looks like we were at DB at the same time. We came home on Saturday after spending a week there. Too bad we didn't get together

If you get a 3BR unit... then all 3 bedrooms have either exterior windows, or sliders. Some of the corner 2BR units are similar to the 3BR configuration, with sliders from the MBR to the balcony.

DB is an awesome resort! The rooms are big and we loved how the master bedroom had double doors so we could watch and hear the surf from bed. We were in phase two,bldg.D. Right across from the south rec. center. We loved how warm they kept the pool and how hot they had the hot tub. Disappointed with the treadmills though. Old stuff. However, we walked into and around town every morning and made up for it. The staff was great! Very helpful.

This was such a great experience. We were in unit 213-H and when we walked into the unit we couldn't have been more excited to see and hear the waves crashing on the bluff below us. The unit was very roomy and up to WM standards. It was very nicely decorated, very comfortable. The staff were excellent and helpful. They were all very friendly.

We liked the idea that the master bdrm had double doors that opened into the living room. Since we were the only two people who were in the unite, we kept the doors open to hear the waves. I even fell asleep on the couch one night with the waves lulling me to sleep.

The master bdrm has a king size bed and a jaquzi with a shower. The master bath can be entered from the hall and the master bdrm as well. The second bdrm has two single sized beds and it's own bathroom with a tub and shower.

Depoe Bay is fantastic. We only live about 50 miles north of this resort in Tillamook, OR and love to stay there during the winter storm season which is during November through February. The facilities and ammenities are wonderful. We've been three times and will probably go there at least once a year. If you love storms, rocky beaches, whale watching, romantic getaways...I highly recommend Depoe Bay. The only thing I wish was that the pool was open til at least midnight or 1am. Some of us are nightowls. =) The pool is awesome as you can be under cover or outside in the same pool.

We love Depoe Bay almost as much as Gleneden. The ocean view is very different between the two -- Depoe Bay is a rocky coastline with waves crashing against the rocks. It is very picturesque, but you need to go elsewhere for sandy beaches (you can drive to the state park by the Gleneden Worldmark, it's not that far away). We stayed in a 3-bedroom special needs unit on the ground floor in phase I. We loved it (other than the known problems that are being fixed by the refurbishment). It was beautiful! Large picture window in the living room with ocean view, large slider in the master with ocean view, window in 2nd bedroom (queen bed) with ocean view. The only bedroom without ocean view was the 3rd bedroom with twin beds -- and the kids didn't care. The bed in the living room is a sofa hide-a-bed (Gleneden was a murphy), but I pulled it out to see how bad it was, and it really seemed to be quite comfortable -- of course I didn't actually sleep on it.

The kids (17 year olds) and I really enjoyed sitting in the outdoor spa and watching the waves pound the rocks. One thing that is nice for kids here is the partially covered pool (good in nasty weather), and the other activities -- tennis, ping pong, billiards, arcade games, etc. From what we've seen, they tend to have a fair number of planned activities that can be fun for kids too.

I was pleased to find a reasonably priced grocery store between Depoe Bay and Gleneden that had a good variety and quality.

Downtown Depoe Bay has lots of neat little shops to wander through, and of course, there's always whale watching tours!

Speaking of reburishing, does anyone know when it will be done. Are most of the units closed for this? Is it Phase I or Phase II that is closed.

The work is in Phase I and it is the last 3 buildings to the north. Those 3 buildings are completely closed. We were suppose to be back in our building (K) in July but we have been informed they are running behind schedule and it will not be ready in July. One building was suppose to be ready in June, one in July and one in August. Not surprised with the weather they have been having at the coast. These 3 building are not just being refurbished, but partly reconstructed. Some new exterior walls, all new decks, front walks, windows, doors, and etc. The windows in the 3 bedroom units will no longer be curved but squared off meaning new exterior walls.

Enjoyed a wonderful week at Depoe Bay, April 8 through Easter Sunday. We had rain, sun, hail, lightening, thunder, you name it!!
Had a corner unit in Phase I this time and it was great - I loved the floorplan. If I had to complain it would only be that we had to close our bedroom and living door each time the neighbor came outside to smoke -- early morning which woke us because we sleep with the bedroom door open a bit and several times during the day. Breeze was blowing south so we got it.........
There's a new pingpong table in the rec room which is a defnite plus - but we wish we could prop the door open for more fresh air. Maintenance man said we had to keep it shut to keep the drifters from coming in off the street. Last time another m/n just said to be sure to close the door when we left. Perhaps a couple of ceiling fans could be added above the pingpong and pool tables.
One other suggestion: we recommend you doublecheck your reservations with the resort before arriving. Evidently there is a lack of communication between vacation planning and the resort sometimes. We had our week reserved 13 months out, then added an extra day just a couple months ago. We were to be in the same unit the entire time. Upon arrival, they only had us for the one extra night! Recepionist was new, didn't know exactly what to do. Anyway, when Sandie came in Sunday morning, everything was handled in a positive manner; she was able to locate both reservations AND we did not have to move to another unit
All-in-all a great week and we're looking forward to our return in December.

Maxine

Hello, We are looking at the Summer of 2007 to visit Depoe Bay and did not know if that would be the best place along the Oregon Coast for a young family ages 8-15. Are the three bedrooms a big difference from the two bedroom as far a views? Thanks

While I love Depoe Bay...I think I might prefer Seaside for a family with children in those age ranges. Only because of location.

I dont know if you've been there...but the Seaside property is located right on the main drag and allows for easy access to everything...just step out the resort's door and there it is...no car required. You've got instant access to local window shopping, ice cream parlors, restaurants, arcades, and beach(kite flying, bonfires etc).

With younger kids it probably wouldnt matter since they'd be with you anyway at all times...but with mid-teens...I think Seaside would be more appropriate. The older ones could go down on the beach, down to the arcade, out for ice cream...all without a car.

Both 2 and 3 bedroom units have great views, but the 3 bedroom have the best. 2 of the 3 bedrooms as well as the main living space have ocean views. Actually there are 2 different 3 bedroom floor plans. One has a balcony for each of the 2 ocean view bedrooms. Plus you have 3 bathrooms in the 3 bedroom. There is no beach at Depoe Bay but you do have 3 pools, 1 inside, 1 outside and 1 half in and half out plus 3 hot tubs, and 2 rec centers. It really depends on what you are after. Seaside is much more active with the hussle and bussle of the city around you and on the beach, Gleneden is on the beach but very quiet, Depoe Bay has the views no one else can match. We stay at Depoe Bay alot and will drive up to Gleneden to walk on the beach or spend the afternoon there with the granddaughters. There are alot of wonderful attractions in the area south of Gleneden and Depoe Bay. Lighthouses, wonderful aquariums, whale watching, and the bay front at Newport. Go into owners photo albums Depoe Bay and look at Harvey's (pictake) pictures of the 3 bedroom unit inside and out.

We just got back from Depoe Bay. I reserved two 2 bedroom units for us and guest. This was our first time at Depoe Bay. We really enjoyed it our guest did too. The pools were wonderful. The sight and sound of the ocean was great.
If you have a large gathering the grills for BBQ are very small.

We had coffee at the Pirate Coffee shop, very friendly and great coffee.

The only problem was the sidewalk from WM to town is under construction, so you have to walk in the bike lane for about two blocks.

We've been to Depoe Bay, I think, 4 different times. Always a great time. The units are beautiful and the views are breathtaking. When you look out it appears the waves are going to come crashing on your window. We just returned yesterday from our most recent 7 day stay there. One day we saw so many whales that we lost count. There were at least 20 in a two hour time frame. And all but one day we saw at least 3 whales and a few seals. Word of caution to parents of small children. We stayed in one of the units that had just been renovated and it didn't have child lock at the top of the door and our one year old kept opening the door and running out the front door!!! We finally got the staff to put on a child lock at the top and were able to relax. There are three pools. One is indoor, one outdoor and one is a combo in/out. While we were there the indoor one was closed the whole time and the in/out was closed for a couple days. This left just the outdoor pool. Kind of a bummer since the weather was in the 60's. The beach access is just 4 1/2 miles down the road and was great fun for our little kids.

I am scheduled to go to Depoe Bay next September 2007. BUT I'm thinking maybe that Seaside would be better (??) Can anyone who has been to both please give me their reviews--which is nicer, which has more "amenities", which would be better in September? We are only 4 adults, no children and are wondering if Depoe Bay is for us. Thanks. Also can email me privately at ijohnston@nasrecruitment.com (put DEPOE BAY in subject line please)

We stayed in Depoe Bay on Dec.18 and we absolutely loved it. We stayed in a two bedroom Phase II, I was trying to figure out why I got a two bedroom because it was just us and our little guy but I remembered you could only book two or three bedroom condos...it was great we really loved the view.
The ocean had 15-18 ft. waves crashing against the rocks we only spent one night but if we had time we could've stayed for at least three days and just observed the ocean. The little guy, my husband and myself moved the chairs so they faced the ocean and cuddled for as long as we could see the water.
We drove up to Lincoln City and then down to Newport and looked at the condos, I can honestly say we would not stay at either one unless we had to. Lincoln City was on the beach too but alot of there rooms had obstructed views and in Newport the condos were not on the beach at all, you could see the ocean if you were in the main building or in a front condo, you probaly could drive down to the ocean somehow but it was on a steep hillside. The kids play area was down on the hillside away from the buildings (between the condos and the ocean on the hillside) you could also see the weathering on the buildings, the rust was outrageous.
So, if you couldn't choose you can't go wrong staying in Depoe Bay...the view is worth a million words.
They have daily activities there and we went on a Tuesday night it was all you can eat spaghetti for $5 and the garlic bread was to die for. I noticed they do a breakfast on Sundays and then the rest of the week are activities for kids and adults.
They did however solicit us to listen to a UPDATE and I went ahead and signed up thinking it was just information about merging with Wyndam but we sat inside and you could tell it was a sales pitch to get you to buy more credits...we lucked out and it was after the big windstorm, they were short handed and backed up so they offered the reward without having to listen. We did end up receiving $75 american express card which we used at Costco. Not to bad just to show up.
The rec room was right across from us and we thought they had an inside pool so we told our little guy he could go swimming much to our surprise the pool was half inside and half outside they have big sliding doors like garage doors that close but they had them open and it had to be around 35 degrees outside. We sat in the hot tub which was a warm tub for a few minutes then got out and ran inside to get warmed up. The arcade room was small and the coin exchange was broke so luckly the spaghetti feed was still going and we got change from her, we tried to use the vending machines for change but obviously that is what eveyone else had done too because there was no change in them either.
But, just to relax and have a great view you don't want to pass up the opportunity to stay there.

Did you not find the indoor pool and spa up near the office at Phase 1??

Also, what condos did you find in Lincoln City? Are you sure you didn't mean Gleneden Beach?

Kent,
Well maybe that explains the indoor pool issue...we didn't realize that the renovation was where the indoor pool was, so my bad, sorry. And I did mean Gleneden Beach it is so close to Lincoln City that I just assumed that was part of it too.

My apologies,
Jackie

We bought a three bedroom fractional at Depot Bay and have enjoyed many vacations there with family and friends. We have also traded for oceanfront view condos in Seaside. In my opinion adults would enjoy Depot bay more with it's spectacular ocean front views. We trade into Seaside because the grandchildren like to fly kites and build fires on the beach. I like the shops in Seaside but am so spoiled by Depot Bay that I will only go there if I can be in an ocean front unit.
