Hmm...probably a little late to respond to this one, but I haven't been on these boards in quite a while.

The best suggestion I can give you for your first trip is to refer you to a great community of Disney Fans that will give you so many resources your head will spin.

Check out the following boards: http://www.disboards.com

Everything and anything you could possibly want to find regarding Disney is there.

Some of the opinions are biased towards disney, but if you are looking for great resources for planning the threads and community there are amazing.

I used some of the tools there to plan our upcoming trip to WDW, which is coming up in a week!

Have fun, and I hope this post finds you in time to plan things out.

My wife and I are looking at going to Orlando sometime next year...either around April or November/December. Which is best in relation to heat and humidity? Also, do all of the parks have all activities going during those times of year?

Dear Kelroy:

I am not an Orlando local, so I cannot give specific climate info.

We stayed at the Worldmark, Orlando in 2007 in early May. Being from Northern California, it seemed hot and humid to us. It was probably in the high 80's. The good part was that the parks were easy to see: no crowds!! Easy parking also.

April would probably be good, but you should try to avoid the Easter/Spring break weeks. Nov/Dec would be good, but I would avoid the busy weeks when kids are out of school. Disney sets up for Christmas right after Thanksgiving.

See my trip report. I found the "Unofficial Guide to WDW" very helpful in planning our trip.

I gotta say this, disboards.com is one of the best WDW sites I've seen. Not only for WDW, but all the parks around the Orlando area. Thanks for the link.

Thanks! We have decided to rent a car! That way we can also visit Sea World too. I did the math and it is actually cheaper this way!

Got a few questions about going in October. This is our first time staying at the resort. Not our first trip to Orlando, but first time we've gone in the fall.

First off; anyone that has gone in late September or Early October, what's the weather like during the day/night? Is it still warm enough to go swimming? Are the nights really cold? I've looked at the weather sites, and it looks like we'd be able to withstand the weather, but I just want to get a few opinions.

Second, we're planning on using the laundry facilities while we are there. What is the best time and day to do laundry? When it won't be so crowded and machines will be available.

We just got back in November and stayed for 11 days at WM resort! I think anytime after Sept would be a great time to go. The temp was 70-80 and sunny. The parks were not crowded- the longest we stood in line was 10 min!! The parks do close on average between 5-7pm because of the time change. We went swimming just about every night. The laundry was not a problem. We did our laundry at night when we cooked our dinner. I only had to do it twice! The washing machines are the extra large ones ( not like the ones found in the units) We rented a car, the best way to go. We got to drive around and see alot. Sea World is right up the street and WDW is only about 10 min away. Don't use your GPS- it will take you in circles, just use the signs! (I bought a map that worked better than our GPS)
Have fun!!

Has anyone been to Orlando in late February/ early March? My husband is active duty military and is going to be deploying soon :-( We decided to go to Orlando before he has to leave. We arrive Feb 21st and leave March 5th. How is the weather? We have a 6 year old daughter and a one year old son any suggestions on activities?

Thank you

You answered all my questions about the resort. We've been there in the past, and our gps worked well for us. We also rented a car last time and will do so again this time. This our first time staying at the resort and just wanted to get a sense of what we're in for. Thanks for the info.

Our first family trip to WDW is in july, we are all very excited . How long of a drive to the beach? How long of a drive to Kennedy Space center. How to get the best deals for family of four (mom, dad, 2 girls 11 and 10) at the parks. What can't we miss while were out there for 7 days. What should we avoid. Any and all advice is appreciated.

Wow, hopefully I'm not too late posting here. First off, what days in July do you have planned for your trip? You'll be there for 7 days, so you really have to plan your days carefully. There is so much to do and see in Orlando, that 7 days is only scratching the surface.

Given the ages of your girls, it sounds like the must do is Disney World for sure. How are you getting there? Flying and renting a car? Driving you own car? The reason I ask is because buying tickets at the theme parks is expensive. Cheaper to buy them online. The cheapest site to buy them from is a site called: Undercovertourist.com. Depending on the dates of your trip, you may not get your tickets in the mail in time; but you can always order your tickets and pick them up. You need to order at least a day in advance.

Disney World can take up the whole 7 days if you let it. There are 4 major theme parks that make up Disney World. Each park easily takes a day. Then there is Downtown Disney, the water parks at Disney. A lot of people can make Disney a vacation on their own.

Also, Islands of Adventure (part of Universal Studios) just opened up the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. For people with kids, this is usually a must do. The only thing about visiting here, lines and crowds have been rather large and lengthy. Not as bad as opening day, but I've heard there is still some long wait times to get into the park. I've heard it is truly amazing though and a definite must see. Again, cheapest way to get tickets here is through Undercovertourist.

Kennedy Space Center is about 60 miles from the resort. So about an hour drive. We're headed out there in October, so this will be our first trip to Kennedy Space Center as well. Wish I could tell you more. Hopefully you can come back and tell me more.

There is also Sea World, which is about a mile or 2 up the road from the resort. Cheapest way to get tickets for this is to go to Sea World Cares . Here, you can purchase a child's ticket for $5 with the purchase of adult ticket. Again, not knowing your dates, I don't know if you would get them in time or not. These tickets you may be able to print online right away though.

What to avoid? I really can't tell you what to avoid. Each person is different. What some people like, others may dislike. Best advice here is to just get out and explore. The only thing I can tell you to avoid, is to avoid what they call extra magic hours at the Disney parks. Crowds tend to be higher at the parks on these days. If you go to the DISNEY WORLD site you can look at the calendar for all the different parks.

Had you posted 6 months, ago; I could've given you so many more tips about Disney World. The main tip I would've given you here is to make dining reservations at their sit down restaurants. During this time of the year, the wait times can be very long. Some of the more popular places you may not be able to get into. Never hurts to ask though.

I hope this helps a little. I'm sure whatever you come up with, will be fun and exciting. Enjoy your trip.

Now that the Wizarding World of Harry Potter has opened up at Islands of Adventure, has anyone gone? What are the crowds like? We're going in October and are trying to get a sense of what the crowds are like. Wondering what day is the best to go. We're looking at either a Sunday or Thursday. I've read on other forums the crowds and lines have still been pretty crazy. We're hoping by the time we go in October, the new would have worn off and the lines a little better.

Been reading a lot of things about what to do in Florida. My gf and I are going to be there a week for relaxing after our week long cruise. Initally we wanted to hit up Seaworld, universal studios, and Disney World, but the cost for all of them is very expensive so do not think that we will. My question is are all of them close enough for a taxi from the resort? or are there shuttles? I don't want to get a car if i don't have to.

Just a thought about DisneyWorld. DisneyWorld is very large and there are different "Lands". It is so large there is a freeway system inside DisneyWorld. In all reality it would take at least 4-5 days to see all of DisneyWorld. I went with my two childhood friends to celebrate turning 50 a few years ago, and we spent 6 days going to just DisneyWorld. It was great fun! We did rent a car, and I think it would be pretty tough without one. Have fun!

eyegirl & thepru. I had the same questions you did and wrote to WM Orlando back in April of this year. My wife and I are headed there in October, so I was curious myself. This was the response I got from the resort manager:

Hello,

We offer shuttle service to the parks through a third party vendor. The cost is as follows:

Disney $10 per person round trip. The drop off location is at Epcot Center and you may take free Disney Transportation to the other parks from there.

Universal $16 per person round trip (children 3 and up pay the shuttle fee).

Both shuttles are not continuous. They have two departure times in the morning and two return times in the evening. These vary depending on the park hours. It usually takes about 10 to 15 minutes to get from the resort to the parks.

Depending on the size of your party and length of stay, we would recommend that our guest rent a car while in the Orlando area.

Taxi services from Disney vary on each park but range from $20-$35. From Universal Studios it ranges from $25-$30.

There is a trolley that runs from 8am until 10pm and travels all along International Drive. This includes Sea World Orlando. The cost is $1.25 per ride and there are also daily passes available.

This is what we'll be doing as well. We plan on visiting Sea World, Disney World, Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure and Kennedy Space Center while we're there. We'll definitely need to the car to get to Kennedy.

Does anyone know what the hours are for the swimming pool and hot tub? Hot tub usually feels good after a long day at the theme parks.
