Activities for the kids west Yellowstone – The Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center, it might take anywhere from 1 to 3 hours or more depending on how much time you spend investigating the displays and what movies, wolves and bears you want to see. With a $10.00 two (consecutive) day adult admission you are given a daily presentation schedule (with the following day’s schedule on the back) that runs from 8:30 am to 7:45 pm. No charge for kids under two. We visited the first week of August and the $2.00 “Keeper Kids” program was scheduled for 10:30 and 6:30 pm daily. The website for the center is
http://www.grizzlydiscoveryctr.org A nine dollar charge to see the IMAX “Yellowstone” movie with a choice of three movies every hour from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. The resort has coupons for both adventure.
A digital camera kept our 7, 11 and 12 year olds busy. These are great because of the instant access to the pictures they are taking. The Junior Ranger program and Junior Ranger badge can be earned for completing age appropriate 6 of 12 pages in a $3.00 booklet. The booklets are meant to teach the kids about taking care of the park and animals. There is a question for each main area in the park and the kids have a choice of three to answer. We bought our booklets at the Madison area stop but they might be available at any ranger station. The rangers and gift shop are found at the very end of the parking lot. down a short trail down through the trees. This is also where the children attend a ranger presentation on this side of the park.
There is also a science kit available at the Old Faithful and Canyon Village visitor centers for $5.00. When we stopped to ask about this on our last day drive we found out it takes 3 to 4 hours to complete and we did not have the time to do that.
Bicycles, a question was asked about bringing them. The resort and town are on the same level ground. I didn’t notice any bike racks in town but the resort has bike racks under the walkways. The resort is at the end of town and has a nice long sidewalk that young children could bike on when being supervised. We saw vans and trailers filled with bikes in every main area of the park. You could do some research online about biking in the park. There must be some areas away from the traffic that you could do some biking. The roads are only two lanes and if there is an animal jam it is very difficult or maybe dangerous to get through them with bicycles.
We didn't spend much time at the resort. Our families used the pool, kiddie pool, and jacuzzis twice. They are great. It had a large lounge area, recreation room, and game room.
