I felt there was not a lot of selection in restaurants in West Yellowstone and what was there was pretty pricey. The food in Yellowstone is pretty spread out and kinda hit and miss. I would recommend trying to eat in your unit or packing a lunch. The restaurant by the Discovery center is now Mexican and it was fine. In the park we ate at the a grill near Old Faithful and I say DON'T. I paid 7.50 for a cold, stale turkey sandwich. My husband ordered a burger and they forgot the burger, he got a bun with no meat. The other places we went were fine. Although we chose not to eat one night because the only restaurant we came across in the park was very expensive. We ate at the dinning room at Mammoth Hot Spring. It was good. We also had lunch in the store at Fishing Bridge. It had good prices and everything we ate was good.

We just returned from West Yellowstone. The restaurants AND grocery stores were spendy like most everything there. We had an excellent breakfast at Three Bears Lodge yesterday before we left town- very affordable, tasty and super friendly and fast service so we highly recommend it! Also had dinner at Beartooth BBQ- good variety of BBQ meat options- we had the beef brisket sandwiches (pretty good) with baked beans (really YUMMY)and home made potato salad (blah) large portions for about $10 each, service was OK but it's a casual BBQ joint. We did try Wild West pizza- everything about the service was slooow- from placing our order to getting the pizza to finally getting the bill which took FOREVER! We thought it was expensive for what we got- $23 for a large skimpy pizza off the menu. It tasted pretty good but wasn't anything special.The people working there really weren't very friendly either. I'd try one of the other pizza joints next time. We did have some really good burgers for lunch at the park- The first time was near Old Faithful, the 2nd time was at Canyon Village where there was a general store and grill in one building. We got the combo meals which were tasty, and a pretty good value for the money considering the prices in town. Word of warning for someone who thinks they'll eat cheap at the McDonalds in town- it's expensive too! A small kid-size cheeseburger is over $2(less than $1 at home) If it's a Mocha you want you won't find Starbucks there but do try the little cedar mobile trailer on the corner of Canyon and Yellowstone Ave(?)- next to Jacklins Fly Shop. Very good coffee and run by a super friendly Oregon transplant.

The resort is located within walking distance from a small downtown with a larger town feel. It has several restaurants. The Outpost Restaurant was rustic inside and out. The waitress was friendly and the food was enjoyable. Two of us ate breakfast for $20. The Beartooth Barbecue was good. It had a café style feel. Three of us ate for $30. We tried ice cream at McDonalds one half block from the resort, cost $5 for two. Even this building was lodge style. Some of our group tried Buffalo Bill’s, one had ribs, one elk steak, and one tried a buffalo burger for $35. A 24 oz. soda at the Mammoth Yellowstone General Store in Mammoth Hot Springs cost us $2.10 each. And last we ate at the Cowboys Lodge Grille in Gardiner, MT just past the north entrance. For a grilled BBQ chicken and a chicken, cranberry salad the cost was $28. A bottle of water at the Old Faithful is $2. We refilled our bottled water nightly to save money and trash. There were more restaurant choices but we were trying to eat in our rooms to save money for our trip.

We ate twice at Buckaroo Bills and twice had the pizza at Gushers during out nine day stay at West Yellowstone. We recommend both of them.

Some people from Austria that we met last year on a bike ride in Moab said that the best cappecino in all the U.S. is at the Morning Glory Cafe in West Yellowstone. Unfortunately the manager was out with a gall bladder operation, and the Cafe was closed during our stay this year.

On the way to West Yellowstone, going north up Highway 20 through Idaho,
just east off Highway 20 as you go through St. Anthony: Fort Henry's Restaurant.
We were there last summer and had wonderful burgers and special fries. Looks like a little converted hunting lodge/mountain kitchen. Casual, pleasant, inexpensive place. Nice people. Delicious food. The address is: 593 N. 2600 E., St. Anthony, Idaho.

We just returned from West Yellowstone and there are many restaurants to select from. We ate out only a few times but this is what we found:

Wild West Pizza - the pizza was very good; we had the speciality pizza, Sitting bull - lots of toppings and crust was great. We also had a side salad where we ended up with just lettuce/greens. Turns out you have to ask your server for toppings on your salad. Hard to do when you don't know

Gusher - we again had pizza (we liked the pizza at Wild West better). The toppings were skimpy and the crust was thicker but not quite done. We also had a french dip and hamburger sliders that were great.

Arrowleaf ice cream - good ice cream and one of the better priced places (there's many ice cream places in town)

Beartooth BBQ - great BBQ! We had the pulled pork and beef brisket and they were excellent. Casual cafe and the servers did a great job.

Woodside Bakery - this is a wonderful place with many delicious goodies. Don't miss it.

We also ate at the buffet in the Yellowstone lodge at Old Faithful - the prices are about the same as in town and the food was ok.

Are restaurants generally open in late January??

We've been there a few times in early October when things are closing down, but would like to do a winter trip. Thinking that perhaps things open back up in December??
