Rotorua Resort Review - 03/07/05 01:15 PM

Have you holidayed at Rotorua? Here's your chance to tell other owners what it's really like? How big is the pool, or what do you wish you had known before you left home?

We stayed a week in a 3-bedroom Unit in Rotorua recently. The resort is about 15-20 minutes drive from the town of Rotorua. The resort was clean and well kept. It was on the shores of Lake Rotorua; the area is beautiful. Our unit backed up to a canal that feeds into the lake. The unit was clean and nicely stocked. Nothing fancy, but everything we needed was there. We used the community BBQ a few nights and it worked just fine. We ate at the restaurant on site one night and it was a great meal with very friendly service. We even got a bottle of wine and a couple of drinks to take back to the room there. It’s pretty small, so, you might want to think about reservations. The pool was a little chilly for our daughter to swim much but the hot tub was just fine. While I was BBQ’ing one night a resort employee stopped by and wondered why the light wasn’t working. He said he would check it out in the morning. While he was there I showed him an exterior deck light that was broken loose on our unit. The next day, both were repaired. We didn’t have any bugs/mosquitoes to speak of until the last night and then they were everywhere! We discovered then that not all the windows had screens on them so we immediately closed those.
The registration desk isn’t staffed 24-hours so make sure you get there during open hours. We tried to check in around 3 pm but our unit wasn’t ready. We checked back in at 4 and still no luck. We got in about 4:30 and for our trouble we were given a Wi-Fi voucher.
The Wi-Fi is very difficult to connect to and is extremely slow. We used it very little while we were there. I wish our resorts would step up and offer Owners free, reliable Wi-Fi. That is the standard now in just about every other hotel/resort/etc.

Bring NZ CASH! Many places do not accept credit cards.

We would definitely recommend this resort. We’ll post more about our trip in the other appropriate forums.
