Just spent a week in Rosarito with my church. We didn't stay at W.M. but did eat at "Tacos el Yaqui" once. As Sled Dog said, "it is the very best". For $6.00 you get 2 medium sized soft shell tacos with all the fixings. I'm not sure what kind of wood it is but the guys chop the meat on a big round slab of wood about 6" thick. Probably mesquite. Beware the peppers, tasty but HOT! I'm not sure which street it's on but it's 1-2 blocks east of the main drag across from the spot with the maze of shops.

Yaqui's perones (a taco on a flour tortilla WITH cheese is a perone) are 32 pesos each, and in my opinion, perones are the way to go. If you don't specify what you want, you'll get a perone. They also have tacos, which are just the same but without cheese; they cost a little less: 29 pesos, I think. Currently, 1 dollar equals 14 pesos.

Tip on the sliced peppers: if they are too hot, squeeze lime juice on them until you have them at the heat you want.

Tacos El Generente Was GREAT. Yaki's had a long line everytime we tried going there. El Generente is 2 blocks down on same side. GREAT food GREAT service!

Yes, they are our back-up. They also have the advantage of being open on Wednesdays when Yaqui's is closed. Gerente doesn't use quite the same grade of meat, but they do have an interesting marinade for the meat.

We just got back from 7 nights in Rosarito. We enjoyed it very much. PStreet1 sent me all her recommendations and information, which was extremely helpful. Everyone we met was nice and we had no problems getting around.

We shopped at the CaliMax, WalMart and the Commercial Mexicana. Each was great for different things. Beware of the traffic if you’re trying to get to the Commercial Mexicana from the south – there’s a 4-way stop just off the freeway and lots of traffic (been a long time since I’ve seen anyone drive in the sidewalk)

We ate at the following:
• Rosarito Hotel (lunch) – good food, nice surroundings and we loved the piano player. I had the “small” (5 oz) grilled fish with rice and beans. Cooked perfectly.
• Splash! (breakfast & dinner) – great food, wonderful staff and the views can’t be beat. I had the machacca for breakfast and the seafood salad for dinner. We also had the steamed clams as an appetizer and the tortillas were to die for.
• La Fonda (original Dimitri’s) – food was good (the Mexican coffee was terrific).
We were there at sunset and it can’t be beat.
• Bettucini’s (dinner) – pizza and beer, what more can you say?
• Pappas and Beer – very much a young/college place, but off season and mid-afternoon a nice place to have some food and listen to music on the beach

Three recommendations for food.
El Yaqui Tacos...YES!

Tacos and a soup/stew called Birria at Birriera El Cunado just south of the resort, can almost walk there. Not posh, but a big step up from street tacos...you MUST try the Birria with a stack of corn tortillas. Excellent tacos and quesadillas. 4 of us ate there like kings for $20 including a tip.

La Brisas about 15 minutes south in Puerto Nuevo. Do the fried lobster and put it with rice and beans on a tortilla. Scrumptious and not expensive.
