There is a nice zoo http://phoenixzoo.org/ just a straight shot up the road. And next to it is also Botanical Gardens and Papago Mtn's which you can climb easily. There is a HUGE hole in the rock carved out by the wind Which makes for great pictures and gives you a nice view of the city and the palm trees

There is also a mall really close called AZ Mills Outlet Mall which has a iMax and Sea Aquarium in it.
